Friday

Friday started as it did for the past 7 ytt weekends with a yoga class. After yoga, we caught up and discussed what the weekend was going to entail. We listened to a podcast on NPR called Rough Translations: Om Alone in India. The podcast discusses the controversy of yoga with the Hindu nationalism and the Indian Muslims. It’s a good listen. Afterwards we discussed the podcast and how we felt about the controversy.

Saturday

Saturday, we started with yoga and a discussion of how to take a basic sequence to the next level. We got into small groups and acted out a few scenarios of how we would handle certain situations. It was hilarious, but also point on. The scenarios dealt with situations we might encounter such as conservatives questioning yoga, students with medical injuries, beginner students, and friends noticing changes in our lifestyle.

We also had time in small groups to break down poses, work on sequences, and discuss whatever else we needed to work on.

Sunday

Sunday was yoga, lunch, and graduation. At graduation, we shared our personal statement, taught a short yoga flow, and presented the next student with our friends and family. It was extremely nerve wrecking, but also exciting.

Overall thoughts

Overall, I loved every minute of yoga teacher training. From day one, I was pushed out of my comfort zone in every possible way. I grew into a better person and yogi through this process.

I know that when I look back on my ytt experience, I probably won’t remember what sutras were discussed or what poses we broke down, but I will remember my teachers and fellow trainees. I will remember all of the hilarious moments, the teary-eyed moments, the happy exhaustive moments, and every other moment in between.
