A Buttercream Flower Birthday Cake

While I was living in Austin, I made this flower cake for a friend’s birthday. She reminds me of a girly girl, so I wanted to make her an elegant cake, with flowers and pearls.

The cake was frosted in vanilla buttercream and decorated with purple and white buttercream flowers.

I textured the side of the cake in a wide ridge design using a small slanted spatula similar to this chocolate cake. I made the pearl border using a Wilton tip 3.

This was a simple and fast cake to make. One thing to keep in mind if you make buttercream flowers is that they need at least 24-48 hours to set and harden. Buttercream takes longer to harden than fondant, gum paste and royal icing, but in my opinion buttercream taste better.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.
