I love making cupcakes. I've made regular size cupcakes, jumbo cupcakes, and recently I've been making mini cupcakes. The mini cupcakes are the perfect size for my kids.
I like the regular sized cupcakes. It has the right ratio of cake and frosting, or at least mine do. The worse is when you get a cupcake that has a scant amount of frosting.
My husband requested a handful of cupcakes to give to a few of his close coworkers. I decided to make jumbo cupcakes, so I wouldn't have any leftover cupcakes tempting me.
These cupcakes are easy to put together. I made the accessories earlier in the day, so that they had a chance to dry.
The bows are a small strip of fondant mixed with tylose (you can also use gum paste or half fondant/half gum paste). I folded the ends toward the middle, used a small amount of water to glue them down and use a small strip of fondant to cover where the ends meet. I glued a small sugar pearl on top.
The Christmas tree is a sugar ice cream cone that I cut in half. I wrapped green fondant around the cone. I used sharp thin scissors (similar to what you would cut hair with) to snip the fondant starting at the top to create the leaves.
I smoothed the vanilla buttercream frosting with a viva paper towel. If you wanted a cleaner look, you could top the frosting with fondant.
